I saw a a bald patch in the middle of my award winning backyard.... I went over and rubbed it with my foot and then noticed it was actually a hole. I pushed down with my foot and heard squealing. I found these buried under fur and grass. That was yesterday. I felt so bad as I thought surely I damaged/killed them. I just took this picture after the dog discovered the spot today. Circle face came in and said the dog ate one of them ... I can't tell if he actually did but one of them is not moving like the rest. He is warm and he does move slightly. Hopefully he is just the runt and the dog (or me) didn't hurt one of them.
You can see the string that I put down yesterday... I put that over the hole to detect if the momma was coming back at night. She is ... at least last night anyway.
Oh! I almost cried just at the THOUGHT of the doggy eating one of them. I really hope they are all OK. Please keep us updated! Baby bunny prayers going out at bedtime tonight!
Something about little baby bunnies in your yard brings out a protective streak that you forget you have. I never thought id watch over the ones in my yard the way i do, at the first sign of a dog or cat im out the door shooing them out of the yard.
Last year a cat got one nest of them, babies were laying everywhere torn apart and after that i just cant look at cats the same even though i know its thier instinct to do what they did. If the cat would of just ate them i dont think it would of bothered me so much, but instead it looked like it just tortured them then left them laying..

We counted at least 8 sets of ears.
I actually cried yesterday because I was afraid that I had killed one of them. I'm a wimp when it comes to animals.
Are those rats?!
