NFL Orders Church To NOT Show Super Bowl

Comments

Shh it's illegal to talk about the NFL without the NFL's permission. ;)
[this is retarded] NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league's longstanding policy is to ban "mass out-of-home viewing" of the Super Bowl. A major exception to the rule is made, however, for sports bars and other businesses that show televised sports as a part of their everyday operations.

So, basically, the NFL hates God. I think I've just stumbled upon a new catchphrase.

I'm actually a little pissed at the reporter who wrote this. I would have grilled Aiello on WHY there is a major exception for sports bars? Do they pay money to the NFL to show games? Don't sports bars fuck with Nielsen measurements?

So, basically, the NFL hates God

Do they also hate the Easter Bunny, Santa, and various other fairy tales?

[this is good]
The NFL is making an ass out of themselves, I hope anyone who watches football takes note of how they treat their viewers and gives the NFL the same kind of loyalty the the NFL gives them, None. boycott the GAME.

The NFL has a brand and a trademark to protect. You can't use the Super Bowl name for your own gain. One might say that the brainwashing temple, I mean church was just trying to provide a place that people could go and see the game -- it doesn't matter.

The NFL can't allow precedent to be set or they run the risk of losing control of the name and the brand.

I think the precedent might have been well established by the decades old allowance of bars to show games license free - on larger than 55in TVs.

This action by NFL defines overzealous copyright protection.
Why yes! Yes they do! The NFL especially hates Jack and the Beanstalk. I remember when I used to read it to the NFL when it was a little baby, it cried and cried and cried.

The NFL may have a trademark to protect but the brainwashed also fuel the economy and watch the commercials. Does the NFL really want to alienate them? Kinda seems counterproductive if you ask me. The argument that this would open the Super Bowl as a marketing tool for the Moonies or Al-Qaeda or Scientology is a pretty weak one.

It also doesn't explain how sports bars are allowed to show the game. Do they pay licensing fees?

By the way, my atheism is better than your atheism. Just kidding :) No, really.

I think people are missing the point. Had the church simply promoted this as "Come and watch the big game on Sunday" the NFL would have no legal ground to stand on.

Because they promoted their own event by using the words "Super Bowl" it forced the NFL to take action. What the church was doing was basically harmless, but the NFL can't pick and choose.

They certainly caught their attention ... but the remaining issue the NFL has with this church is that they want to use a project the game on a wall - for a 12ft picture. The NFL says anything over 55in is prohibited.
I'd pay money to see this go to court. NFL sues Church. It would probably be better than watching the Super Bowl. It would be even better if the church sued the NFL for players' unlicensed use of the words "God" and "Jesus" and unpaid royalties on all those Hail Mary passes over the years.
[this is good]
I agree with Doc, the Church, and all other religions should sue the NFL for use of god, Jesus, hail Mary pass, and any other use of religious names ever used by the NFL their agents or players.

It is ridiculous to believe that they can stop anyone from showing the game not for profit yet they waive their rights to the use of their copyrights when sports bars make a profit off of it for free. And why would the NFL want to alienate any one who would watch their shows and the commercials which they make their money on? And as for their anything over 55inches being prohibited, I don't remeber signing anything saying I wouldn't watch my tv shows on a screen of no more than 55 inches anytime before, so again I think it's stupid, frivolous and a waste of any courts time, I hope that if the NFL proceeds the judges laugh in their face and charge tehm for wasting the tax payers time and money.
[this is good]
The NFL is just running rampant with their rules and regulations about who can show what and when and where. What happened to just playing football? Don't get me wrong, I know it's a business, but they're starting to bite the hand the feeds them, i.e. yours and mine. Luckily for us, they're only starting to nibble on our hands. They've already consumed fingers, arms, legs and souls of the men that made the NFL, the back-in-the-day players. Ditka was complaining previously and is doing so again. I hope he gets somewhere with it.
The NFL doesn't structure the player's pension - their union does.
did you see the banner i made you?
*Update: Churches To Defy NFL - The God is fucking pissed.
So the mutli-billion dollar industry that is the NFL can't see their way to ensure that some of the people that made it what it is today don't die poor, homeless and in pain??!?!?! Union or not, the NFL should feel some sense of responsibility.
The NFL would get their asses sued - and lose - if they tried to circumvent the collective bargaining agreement.

Further - they have no obligation to ensure that people aren't financially stupid when it comes to investing in their long term future. I understand your point, but if someone is homeless or poor, and they expected their pension plan to take care of them, they were very foolish.
