I've not had too much of an issue speaking out publicly or in crowds. The ego stroking or self promotion has been a very well groomed character defect for me. But in about 90 minutes I'm speaking at midwest detox facility about my 'imminent death' experience, my recovery and my hope. This will be a first for me. The originally scheduled speaker pulled out so a friend of a friend of a friend called in a favor which fell in my lap. I'm honored to have been asked and can't turn down an opportunity to help others - what if someone had turned down the opportunity to help me back in January? I'm just worried that my recovery isn't strong enough to be held out as an example for others. Anyway, I purposefully did not spend all of last night or this morning working on content or delivery of this 'speech' - actually I went and saw Death Race last night with a friend. I'm just going to open my mouth and hope the words can flow my heart. I hope.

It is about 1 hour
until the kickoff of the Colts pre-season - well actually the NFL pre-season to be specific. The Hall Of Fame game starts the Sunday Night NFL games on NBC. Yeah, these games are meaningless but they are a good warm up and excitement builder for me. I thought the NFL reserved tongiht's game, The Hall Of Fame Game for good teams - so I'm surprised to see the Skins scheduled for this game. --- Oh, I think that was trash talk? Yes.
My "no TV" experiment
may be seeing it's last days. I'm not extreme enough to go without a TV during football season. I might have to go and panhandle my way to a new one. It is wierd telling people that you don't have a TV - they just look at you funny. I might as well just say that I don't have a refridgerator - the response would be the same.
For the last 10 days
I have been on vacation and I had Circle Face for 8 days of it. She started missing her mom badly at about day 7. We were supposed to go to Tenn. and visit my mom but the car took a crap and I had to pull funds away from vacation to get the car back in shape. I do have solo vacations in Colorado in Oct and Organce County CA next spring which thankfully I pre-paid everything except hotel on those. I plan to use points for lodging on both trips.
PS: 208 days - a couple of you will know what that means. It feels very damn good too.

Crap.
Where did this come from? Manning Out 6 Weeks After Knee Surgery. Yet another ominous sign for the 2008/9 season. As if we needed another one.
Haters up north ... enjoy your gloating ... for the moment.
It's amazing how
much I can procrastinate. I've told myself that I'd make "few games this year" for many years now and never make it to any of them. It would appear that my baseball drought is about to come to a screeching halt as I'm being dragged kicking and screaming to tonight's game at Victory Field by a coworker. I've said 'no' many times but she doesn't accept 'no' ... might be fun anyway. These photos are not mine.
Flood waters
damaged the data center and telecommunications center Tuesday night at the Colts new home, Lucas Oil Stadium.

Of course they
are downplaying it. I was told that better than 40% of the servers and all of the telephone system have to be replaced. They can get servers re-delivered in less than a week but I wonder if they had backups since they weren't in production yet ... hmmmm. Phone systems don't just get gutted and replaced in a "few weeks" as the article says.
First pre-season Colts game: Aug 24th with the Buffalo Bills.
First regulation Colts game: Sep 7 with the Chicago Bears (Sunday Night)
PS: Nose bleads for the Bears game are now $252/each.
Damn'd exciting
news at work. We worked a proposal last summer/fall/winter/thisspring that at times had over almost 200 people assigned and WE WON! Valued at over $10B $1B- with a Big B.

Finally got around to scheduling some vacation - actually two vacations.
The Smokies (or pretty damn close):
Circle Face and I are visiting my mom and sister for a week in July (25th -Aug 3rd). They live in Smithsville, TN - yep it's a metropolis. I haven't seen my mom for about 6 years so I'm looking forward to spending time with her. They haven't met Circle Face yet. As well, my sister has a 14 month old son that I have yet to meet. I'm mildly excited about this. The family pretty much fell apart in the late 80s and it's never been the same. I've seen my mom a handful of times in the last 20 years. She wants me stay at their house but I just can't do that. I'll cash in some Priority Club points and stay at the nearest Holiday Inn Express.
The Rockies:
This will be a solo retreat from Sep 30th thru Oct 5th with lotsa book reading and recovery stuff. I booked a flight to Denver using some United vouchers. I don't have a hotel reservation yet. I'll either use my points for a free stay or seek a last minute deal on one of those travel sites. I'll probably lock up the BlackBerry, unplug alarm clock, and reset the clock on the car stereo - all so that I'll never know what time it is. The ex and I did the no clocks thing during a trip to Florida in '99 and it was a blast. I have no plan for this one and I've never taken a solo vacation. My goal is to just do what feels good for the moment and reflect on the past 2 years of my life.
I haven't scanned the hood lately - but dang!
